Whatcha working on Wednesday?

I have been doing a little bit of decluttering around the house.
One of the areas was the top of my wall cupboard.

I packed up, graters, a crow and some small crocks to add to the yard sale stash.

This is the "after " pic.

The doll at the right side of the cupboard lost her wood wings when I put her in the washer. I know, I know, I should have known better...but, she was dirty ........

This is the little amount of corner space I have to work with. I put the toaster and other stuff that we seldom use in the cupboard( after I cleaned it out). I did find a good use for my firkin. :)

There was one yard sale this morning. This is the first time I have ever went to a yard sale on a Wednesday, and it was a rainy Wednesday at that!

The gnome $1.00, black swan $1.00 and old lazy susan $1.00!!!
Today must have been the day for $1.00 items because...................................

These were $1.00 too!!
I am loving them! They are so old.

Can you see the little buttons on the sides?

Stop over by Leslie's and see what everyone else is working on. :).

An "AFTER" show

I hope everyone had a great weekend. We sure did. :)

Saturday, my sister,Karla, Mom, Aunt Eileen and I all went out to breakfast.

We started out meeting at Mcdonald's but Karla wanted to try out a new place in town, "Francis Family Restaurant". We loaded up and went there.

Let me tell ya, food and service was great!!

Then we went on a ride to a few old cemetaries to look for ancestors.
Last stop was the Kennedy Stone House. Mom and Aunt Eileen had not been there before.
Everyone headed home about 3:30pm.

Today was spent puttering around the house. :)

Okay, enough of my weekend....

Here again, is the wall cupboard that I had bought at a yard sale. price- $3.00

I used the free Glidden paint that I received a few days ago. Some of you asked how I got it free. The fact is, Glidden was running a special on TV that they were giving away approx. 250,000 quarts of free paint. You even got to pick what color you wanted. :) It was a great deal and I emailed them a thank you note.

Now, without further ado..................

I am loving it!!!

Be back soon, Me

A Few THings to Show You.............

Hi everyone, sorry for the long absence. Things get kind of hectic every once in a while.
First, I want to show you some goodies I received in the mail. I participated in a textile swap at The Pickled Pepper Patch. My partner was Anne from http://www.seasonsofthepast.blogspot.com/

Look at all the awesome goodies I got!! A very large prim pillow,
2 small shelf sitter pillows, a framed stitchery and the cutest little bird sitting on his nest of tiny pillows. :)
Everything is wonderful!!! If you are interested in participating is some great swaps head on over to Char's Pickled Pepper Patch. You won't be sorry!!! :)

On to my next pic......
I had ordered some freebie paint from Glidden . This color is Sweet Buttercream. I like it.
Don't get me wrong , I love the dark primitive colors but this to me seems like a great "whitewash" color.

I needed a project to go with the paint.

This I picked up at a yard sale for $3.00. It's about 3 foot tall.

Know what color I am painting it?? That's right, Sweet Buttercream. :)

Stay tuned this weekend for the finished project. :)

Keep Them in Your THoughts.........

Taken in 1977
Cindy , second row, far right

I have some yard sale goodies to show you, but today my heart is just not in it.

My cousin Cindy, has been on a ventilator for over a week. She is a single mom with two sons. One evening last week, her boys came home after a movie and she was sleeping- or so they thought. They went on to bed; only to wake and find her in the same position and not responding. The squad was called. She is/has been in a diabetic coma and on a ventilator. The doctors have said there is no brain activity. I haven't seen Cindy in many, many years. She is in Florida and we are in Ohio. Her mom( my Aunt Mary) moved here a few years ago before eventually retiring to the Carolinas. Aunt Mary and Cindy's sister, Christine are already there. Her sister ,Cheri, is on a cancellation flight out of Chicago. She will arrive in Florida at 7pm tonight. The pastor is there. I am not sure if the ventilator will be turned off tonight or tomorrow. Please keep the family in your thoughts.

Cindy, I know you are in heaven; please hug Grandma and Grandpa for me.

Just Some Rambling.......

I spent the bigger part of the day cleaning arond the house.
Ran to town this afternoon to pick up potatoes and I stopped at the Goodwill. There were no goodies there for me. :(
Tomorow will be a yard sale day I hope.
I don't know about all of you but its been slim pickings around here at both the Goodwill and yard sales this past couple months.
Anyone else noticed that?

I wanted to show you the wood lids( on the crocks) we made. It's hard to tell in the pictures but the lids are very "distressed".
Distressed as in we beat them with a hammer, stabbed them a few times with a screwdriver and slid them across the gravel before staining. they look VERY old .....and..... I sure worked off alot of stress. :).

This one is probably my fave. :)

The plywood was a piece(almost a full sheet) we had picked up at the recycling center. The guy said he would take 3.00 off our total. I was happy with the price; a piece of plywood costs more than that. I think they look better with lids and I don't have to dust the insides so much.

Tonight for supper I made baked steak, gravy, mashed potatoes, corn and straberry shortcake for dessert. I know the days of fresh berries are drawing near. I miss them so much in the winter. The ones that are shipped in just don't taste the same.

What did you have for supper?

Picked 2 tomatoes and about half dozen cucumbers from our little garden. Green beans should be ready for first picking by the weekend.

Grass looks a bit shaggy but we haven't had rain in a while and I don't want it to die by cutting it. I hate seeing yards with brown crispy grass. I think it's depressing.

Neighbor girls stopped over while I was outside. They are living with their grandparents right now, since mom and dad are getting a divorce. The girls are 8 and 10. I got to hear about their fish dieing and the funeral, their dad taking them out to dinner this evening( they were wearing dresses) and how much they want a big pool. :)

Still need to clean out storage building and do a little weeding. It's wrote down in my little notebook. I will get to it sometime. :)

Here in my part of Ohio they are calling for temps to be in the 70's over the weekend. What is going on with our weather? Now mind you, I don't mind the cooler temps(it seems like Fall). It makes me wonder what the weather will be like when it is Fall.

I thought abut painting the area where my washer /dryer set. That will probably wait till a later date.

I do want to change out the stuff on my TV. I want to put away my Uncle Sam and other things like that. Just not sure what i am going to replace it with. It's too soon for scarecrows and such.

Well, enough rambling from me.
Will let you know how my yard saling goes tomorrow.

Whatcha Working on Wednesday- 2 projects...........

Good morning,
I have been up for a while, got the garden all watered, and had a cup of coffee . I still need to sweep the floors and go to a dr.'s appt.
I haven't participated for a VERY long time in Leslie's, Whatcha Working on Wednesday posts.
I just didn't have much I was working on.
Today, I am back!! woohoo!!
I got not one, but TWO projects to show you. :)

I picked these up at Claysville community yard sales (not the rectangle wood box in the background, I already had it and not the phone nor glasses) lol

Want to see what I did with them??

Do they look better? :)

The paint is a Rustoleum spray paint from Dollar Zone( an everything for one dollar store).
I am very happy with the color.

Okay, on to my next project.

I was tired of the faded green lawn chairs we were using. Buying new ones was not an option.
Do you know how much these cost these days?? geez....

So............................. we spray painted them. :)

This is also paint from the Dollar Zone store. It is Valspar's American Traditions.
color- garden stone
I think the chairs( 4 total), look much better. :)

Oh, Shegog's IGA has ground round( local meat) on sale this week for $1.99 /lb. ;
if any of you are close by. :)

See ya soon,

GOodies To SHow You

This past Saturday we went to Zanesville , Ohio for the beginning of the Pottery festival.
The weather was beautiful .

I did get some goodies I want to show you.................

This 10 gallon crock cost me a whopping $10.00!!!

I am loving it! I wish they weren't so darn heavy I would ship them to ya. :)

I also bought a 2 gallon crock for $2.00. The crocks are at OHIO Pottery in Norwich, Oh.
( just in case anyone is close by).

The small prim crocks, jugs and cup were won at a quarter toss. I was thrilled !
No, I didn't win them, my SO did. He tossed 6 quarters and won 4 things.
I was soooo happy. He even picked all prim ones, but I knew he would. That guy loves primitive goodies as much as me. :)
Notice the white sack sticking out behind the big crock? That is a bag( or what is left of a bag) of large cashews. We stopped at Tom's Ice Cream Bowl and got some to go.
A visit to the Goodwill in Zanesville was also one of our stops. I got a couple things to redo. Wait till you see them! :)

Today, we worked on wood lids to put on the large crocks. I will probably post those pics for Leslie's ,Whatcha Working on Wednesday. It's been a long time since I participated. The weather has been much cooler , I am feeling better and I think I am out of my slump.

Our first cukes were picked today. :) No, we don't have a large garden, it probably measures a whole 6 ft. x 8ft.( if that).

Terri , don't get mad at me for getting my apron dirty. It's been washed twice so far this summer and still looks as good as new..
My neighbor across the road( the good neighbor) asked me where it come from. I told her a new designer from Clay Hill Farms. :)

I know alot of you really liked Country Home magazine. I know I did and I do miss it!

I do have some good news!

There is a new magazine that is in the works.....

Want to know the name?

Want to know more about it??

Well go to .............................

Oh, it's going to be a good one!!

My How Things have CHanged

Hi all,
I hope everyone is doing great and keeping busy this summer. :)
I just pulled three more cucumbers this morning.
I was going through some old photos and thought I would show you a little of my decorating history.
Sometimes I look back at christmas pics, old magazines and things online and think wow!
Did I actually like that stuff? Or is it just my way of getting to where I am now? Maybe I am one of those kind of people who have to "live" through it to know if I really like it.

This one is from 1998

Notice the massive amount of Home Interiors? I had a party every month or every other month.
I can't believe that I liked brass. lol

Here we are at 2002

This was my idea of country decorating.
I can say it was much more relaxed and less stuffy.
I still have the handmade scarf that is on the table.

Today- 2009

So much better!! All the clutter is gone! The walls are in much better shape( and color)
The furniture is soft and comfy. I love kicking off my shoes and putting my feet up.
The coffee table is made from 1837 barnwood. It doesn't matter if you have your shoes on it , set a sweating glass down , or the nieces play with cars on it cause the marks add character . ;)

Got any photos of your "old" decorating style?

Plans for the 4th?

What are your plans for the July 4th weekend?

"And I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I'd gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land God bless the

Have a happy and safe weekend everyone!!
