show & tell project-prim chalkboard

Good morning!
Finished this little project up on Monday but thought I would wait until Thursday's show and tell to show it to you. :) I took and old chalkboard removed the wood trim off and added my own to make it more prim. I used some of the barnwood scraps. I am trying not to waste any of it whatsoever. Chalkboard was a thrift store find, 99 cents.

Before

After-please pardon the glare, I had to have the flash on.

I even picked up an old eraser at the thrift store too, a whole 19 cents!!

Its early morning for me but there are several yard sales in the neighborhood. One is 4 houses down ( about 1/4 mile) and it is a 10 family sale. Wish me luck!! :)

We have not made any definite plans for the weekend; have you??

whatcha working on wednseday.............

Good morning!!
Its time again for Whatcha Working on Wednesday!!
I am venturing into some paper crafts today. I have been working on some wood projects( as you can tell from my last post) and I need something different to do. Found some small composition books (4/$1.00) at dollar tree. I want to cover them and use them as small gifts. They make great purse journals or address books.

Hobby Lobby has some really nice scrapbooking paper that will make great covers.

Before I forget,

Canela at
http://cinnamonsticksboutique.blogspot.com/2008/07/necklace-give-away.html

and.............. Mary at

Two for Tuesday.........

Two for Tuesday.................
I am posting two pics today. Hence, "Two for Tuesday" title. lol
First pic is my swap goodies I received from a summer swap on
http://www.createaprim.com/
If you are not a member, come on over!! There will be another swap going on soon! I want to say thank you to Gayle for all the wonderful goodies!

This pic is of an extreme primitive sled we made, it stands 82 inches tall!. Auction ended Saturday on EBAY! The sled is made from old barnwood dated from 1865and is going to its new home in Indiana today. I hope gail enjoys it! I loved making this project.

I am going to clean up the house a bit and go on a search for some new plants. I wonder if mums are out yet?? My petunias on the porch have seen better days. Even with pinching them back, I think they get to looking a bit ragged.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I also got a great recipe to share with you..............a friend made this last night for supper and brought me over a bowl, its wonderful and easy!!
crockpot chicken and vegetables
1 1/2 to 2 pounds boneless chicken breast halves, cut in large chunks
1 can (10 3/4 ounces) condensed cream of chicken or cream of chicken and mushroom soup, undiluted
cha-ching!!!
The yard sale is over!!
We made $273.10!
Woo-hoo! There were cars lined up all morning on our road. The weather was wonderful and folks stood around talking after making a purchase, it was just a super socializing time. I had posted to freecycle what time the sale was going to be over and that leftovers would be given away. I had lots of emails but the one I picked was the right one! She is just a young woman, only 20 and a baby on the way. She lives in the government apts. down the road. After she left with the 2 bags( thats all I had left), we went to the store to get some food to put on the grill. When we got home I got out of the car and there was a wonderful thank you card in the door!! She really touched my heart! I have her addy so I will definitely stop for a visit.
Gonna check out some yard sales for baby things. I am sure she could use them. :)
Now, what am I going to spend the money on? Well, 40.00 is going for plates for the van.
50.00 is going on CWF-UV for the steps and front deck. Another 40.00 is going on white ceiling paint. Lets see, that gives me about 140.oo to spend. I know its a little more than that but I plan on going to starbucks and grabing a frozen drink. :)
hhmmmm. Maybe a few new towels and new throw pillows. I am also going to pick up the ingredients to make some homemade laundry soap. I figure the ingredients cost about $5.00 and it only takes 2 tablespons per load. thats right, tablespoons. less than 3 cents a load...... if I figured right and I should get over 111 loads. Everyone I know has been raving about it. You can make liquid or powdered.
Me? I am making powdered. Its easier to store in small spaces. :)
Oh, I need to pick up some styrofoam bowls at the store. I am making homemade noodles for the family reunion tomorrow. I also still have to wrap the prizes for the adult games we will be playing. Yard still needs mowed and I also have got to water the potted plants....... see, I need to stop gabbing.
bye for now, kim
the weekend is coming...........
Are you ready to yard sale this weekend?
I am not going to any sales but having one myself. I still have a bunch to get marked before Saturday.
We are having a community sale so it will be hectic in the neighborhood.
Hours are 8am-1pm.
I am glad its only till 1pm. I see no sense in having a sale till 4 or 5 pm. That means it is 7-8pm before you are all cleaned up and things headed to the goodwill.
This year I am doing something different. I am NOT sending items to the goodwill, I am going to post on freecycle that all leftover yard sale items can be picked up after 1:30pm. I believe that is a good thing to do. Someone who comes to get it might use it in another sale , but that is up to them. At least I will feel good about giving it away.
We are having hash brown casserole and sausage patties for supper tonight.
Hash brown casserole
10.25 oz. can condensed cream of chicken soup
8 oz. Colby cheese - grated( I usually add a little more- we like it cheesy!)
1/2 cup melted butter OR margarine
1 sm. onion - minced
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
2 lb. bag frozen shredded hash browns
Spray a 13" X 9" X 2" baking pan with non-stick cooking spray; set aside.
-In a bowl, combine soup, cheese, butter, onion, salt, and pepper.
-Gently fold the potatoes into the mixture and pour into prepared pan.
-Bake in a 350 degree oven for 35-40 minutes, until heated through and top is browned.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As some of you know, my oldest daughter(Samantha or Sam to us)'s fiance is in Iraq. She is with his parents in Missouri.
I think of him often and pray he returns safely. I believe that America will always help others but I wish they didnt have to do it by going to war. My dad sent me this in an email and I thought I would share it with you.
Deck of Cards
It was quiet that day, the guns and the mortars, and land mines for some reason hadn't been heard. The young soldier knew it was Sunday, the holiest day of the week.
As he was sitting there, he got out an old deck of cards and laid them out across his bunk.
Just then an army sergeant came in and said, "Why aren't you with the rest of the platoon?" The soldier replied, "I thought I would stay behind and spend some time with the Lord."
The sergeant said, "Looks to me like you're going to play cards."
The soldier said, "No, sir. You see, since we are not allowed to have Bibles or other spiritual books in this country,I've decided to talk to the Lord by studying this deck of cards."
The sergeant asked in disbelief, "How will you do that?" "You see the Ace, Sergeant? It reminds me that there is only one God.
The Two represents the two parts of the Bible, Old and New Testaments
The Three represents the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost.
The Four stands for the Four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
The Five is for the five virgins...there were ten but only five of them were glorified.
The Six is for the six days it took God to create the Heavens and Earth.
The Seven is for the day God rested after making His Creation.
The Eight is for the family of Noah and his wife, their three sons and their wives -- the eight people God spared from the flood that destroyed the Earth.
The Nine is for the lepers that Jesus cleansed of leprosy. He cleansed ten, but nine never thanked Him.
The Ten represents the Ten Commandments that God handed down to Moses on tablets made of stone.
The Jack is a reminder of Satan, one of God's first angels, but he got kicked out of heaven for his sly and wicked ways and is now the joker of eternal hell.
The Queen stands for the Virgin Mary.
The King stands for Jesus, for he is the King of all kings.
When I count the dots on all the cards, I come up with 365 total, one for every day of the year. There are a total of 52 cards in a deck; each is a week - 52 weeks in a year.
The four suits represent the four seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.
Each suit has thirteen cards -- there are exactly thirteen weeks in a quarter.
So when I want to talk to God and thank Him, I just pull out this old deck of cards and they remind me of all that I have to be thankful for."
The sergeant just stood there. After a minute, with tears in his eyes and pain in his heart, he said, "Soldier, can I borrow that deck of cards?"
Please let this be a reminder and take time to pray for all of our soldiers who are putting their lives on the line.
Prayer for the Military: Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands.
Protect them. Bless them and their families.
Amen.

Thursday's show and tell

***UPDATE***
Justina at http://pepercreekgatherings.blogspot.com/ is having a giveaway , hurry over!!!

Today I have a few photos to share with you.
The first one being , my simmer pot. ;) I know a few of you have the candle warmers( I have one too, somewhere, lol)but my favorite is this simmer pot. I think it does the best job. I either use melts/tarts in it or if I find a good candle at the thrift stores or yard sales, I will break it up into smaller chunks and use that. I bought this particular pot at a yard sale for $2.00. I love the pretty scene on it. as you can tell, its WELL USED! ;)
My favorite place to get melts is
http://www.tarasscentgifts.com/
Tara has great scents, cool molds and great service!
The cast iron and chunky star melts are my faves right now.

Second on my picture list is one of the back of my storage building. Here are some Black eyed susans, my little old gate that says, "simplify" and an old light holder. There aren't many who see it, but I know its there and that makes it all good.

The 'ol picket fence. I added this piece of fencing a few years ago, then came the flowers and then the old tool implements.

My first canna bloom! This was the orange canna that I received on my birthday. I can't believe it has grown this much and bloomed in a month!! The large burgundy plants around it are also cannas . I cant wait to see them bloom too!

Close up of canna bloom

Okay, come on . post your show and tell.

kim

I'm late- Whatcha working on Wednesday

Sorry, I am late in posting. I have been busy all day. I am preparing for a yard sale Saturday and a family reunion on Sunday. This family reunion is on my mom's side. We have a craft auction to help pay for paper supplies, facility, etc. It is really alot of fun! I am working on a planter chair. I am going to paint it white( well, off white). not sure what to plant in it. Should I go with annuals, mums( since fall is approaching), herbs or what?? hmmmm.............
What is your opinion??

Be back tomorrow for show and tell, I have a few things to post. :)

Inquiring minds..........

Pioneer_Family
What are you doing today??
I have laundry going, need to run the sweeper and decide on something for supper.
What are you fixing?
I was planning on watering this morning bright and early, but woke up at 5am to rain and thunder. Thats a good thing!! The yard and plants needed a drink badly.
We are planning on having a yard sale this Saturday. Things are piling up and I really need to declutter. I also was asked by a local shop to make some dolls for the owner to purchase. This lady is really into primitives so deciding on what to make should be easy, its just making the time to sew. I have made a few dolls for other local shops and really enjoy it, plus, the extra income is always nice too. lol
Remember me telling you about the cream colored curtains I bought over the weekend? Well, I am thinking of tea staining them. Have any of you tea stained large items like this? How would I do it? I am used to tea staining small projects and dolls so am wondering which is the best way for larger things.
Don't forget that tomorrow is "whatcha working on Wednesday", so get those projects out. ;)

Oh, before I go. check out this soap by Rustic Cottage( tell her Kim @ simple needs sent ya).
I think I may have to splurge and get me some of the sugared lime. It sounds wonderful!!!

THE WEEKEND IS OVER.........

I am tired! I have had a very busy weekend and have a few things to share with you.
First, I received my giveaway goodies from Home Again-Vintage Treasures
http://gardenjunk.blogspot.com/
I received two lavender sachets, a bar of lavender comfrey soap, vintage doily, handkerchief with a "K", a beautiful bird and nest, coffee mug, and vintage picture. I am so loving it all!!
Thank you so much!!

I have grown quite tired of this shelf and the display. I am contemplating painting the walls but am not sure. I do know this thing is /was driving me crazy!!! See the cat sleeping on the back of the chair? Well, she doesn't drive me crazy. that is "MRS". I know crazy name,but its hers. lol

BEFORE

and now.. after! The star is one I bought a week or so ago at a wholesale shop for $2.50!!
I made the shelf out of some barn wood. The barn was built in 1865, according to the owner. He offered me some wood so I jumped at the chance. I wanted something plain and simple, no fussiness , no pip berries on here! lol
The goose is from Mary at http://gettysburghomestead.blogspot.com/
I simply love him! I would definitely buy from Mary anytime!
The pewter candle holder I got at a yard sale saturday for $1.50. Not a bad price, do you think? The crock I already had. I laid the surround sound speaker down inside of it. Surround sound speakers are so not prim. lol

So, what do you think??? Does it look too sparse?
Please let me know if you think I need to add something , I am open to ideas.

Besides the pewter candle light holder, I picked up 3 gingerbread cookie pans, . These are not cute chubby gingerbread men, but long skinny ones. They are really cool. I thought about using them for maybe cinnamon dough gingers?? I dont know. I did get all 3 for 10 cents!!
I also picked up a set of cream colored curtains. six panels( 80 inches long) and three valances for $5.00. I thought about embroidering on them or something. or maybe just use them in the bedroom??
They may end up in my own yard sale that I am having next weekend. :)

Today's family reunion was on my dad's side. We arrived at 12:40pm and was home by 2:50pm.
Wow, and that included eating too!!
Next weekend is the one on my mom's side of the family. It will be alot longer! We not only eat but also have games for kids and adults. We play our own version of musical chairs. Instead of getting up and moving ( which older folks cant do) we play music, pass around a hat and a bike horn. Each person has to put on the hat( and its usually a crazy one) , then honk the horn.
Then they pass both items to the next person before the music stops. It really gets everyone in a great mood and laughing. We also do bingo, guess how many is in the jar game and others.
One of my favorite things is our "handmade goods" auction. Each family brings handmade goodies, whether it be crafts or cakes, pies, jellies and jams, etc. These are auctioned off and the money is used to pay for table services, game prizes, etc. Its alot of fun and everyone gets to show off their creativeness.

One of my very easy, very simple, very fast ( and very favorite) desserts

DUMP SALAD

1 (21 oz.) can cherry pie filling
1 (20 oz.) can crushed pineapple
16 oz. Cool Whip
1 (14 oz.) can condensed milk
2 c. miniature marshmallows
Dump all ingredients into a large bowl and mix thoroughly. It should be a pretty pink color, with no white areas remaining. Refrigerate 4 hours or overnight. Serve as a fruit salad or light dessert. Makes 10-12 servings.

Interested in "primming" some bright floss?
check out Ginger's idea on

See ya later, Km

On my agenda.......

OLD THYME FAMILY REUNION

Well, what are you doing this weekend?
I am planning on hitting the yard sales tomorrow and a family reunion on Sunday.
It is smoking hot here, the humidty is terrible and I feel like melting. lol
The yard is mowed, flowers watered, and the dog and cats are lounging with me in the air conditioning. They are so spoiled!

I want to let everyone know that Tammy at
http://countrygirlathome.blogspot.com/
is having a giveaway and has opened an etsy shop with her husband.
I think that is so wonderful!! . You have got to check out her goodies!! WOW!!
Tell her that Kim at simple-needs sent ya. :)

thursday- show and tell

Good morning!!

It is time for Thursday's show and tell.
First , I want to show you the crock I found in a friend's yard. We were digging up an area to put in a new plant bed. There were lots of rocks and pieces of brick too, but I think I found a keeper with this crock. It still holds water too! this made the job worthwhile(that and the pizza we ate afterwards). :)
IMG_1007

and what did I put in the crock?? Well, some of these very pretty coneflowers!! I have them growing in a few places throughout the yard.
IMG_1006

My new canna area. They are coming along nicely. I am not one to plant things that have to be dug back up and store over the winter but I will try it this year.
IMG_1003

So, what do you have to show and tell this morning??

Oh, I will be posting again later. I was nominated for 2 awards. Right now, blogger is giving me fits and I cannot get the award to appear on my screen. darn it anyways.

Thursdays shopping goodies

I really liked this picture and I was wanting to change the stuff on the main wall in my living room. I am hoping this might do the trick. It's over 4 ft. long and the best part is I only paid $8.00.

IMG_0992

The star was $2.50 and it is made from wood. I love the color. I am partial to black; but lately the blues, teals and creams are really appealing to me too. The votive was $2.00. There is a small knick in the back, but it's nothing that can't be fixed. :)

IMG_0994

I thought this was really neat. I may offer it up for sale on ebay. I got it home and realized its so big ! I don't have room for it.
IMG_0996

What a huge saltbox house!!! It is almost 5 foot tall! I found it at a thrift store in my hometown. Can you believe it was only 20.00??!! There is a light to go in the back too.
IMG_1000

Last but not least, this is an awesome door crow. I just love it!! He was only $8.00. I made the hang tag . It reads, "Primitive Blessings to You"
IMG_0998

See ya tomorrow!!

Halfway through............ the weekend!!
Geez, I can't believe it!! lol
I went shopping on Thursday and found so many goodies!! If you have never been to Countryside Finds in Seville, Ohio and you HAVE vendor's ID. You need to stop in!! They are a wonderful bunch of gals to work with.
http://www.countrysidefinds.com/
Not only do they have great bargains( everything in the warehouse is 50% off), but that place is so warm and welcoming. there is cold drinks, coffee and snacks for you to enjoy and CLEAN bathrooms! I dont know about you, but I hate going somewhere that has dirty bathrooms. We spent four hours there shopping.

Okay, okay enough of me advertising.lol

Friday and today I spent yard saling, thrift store shopping and working on my summer swaps.
I had three swaps to send out this coming week and they are all boxed and ready to go.I sure hope the gals like them.
Um, I was going to show a pic, BUT I dont want anyone seeing the goodies in advance. Sorry!!

Thursday- show and tell

Good morning!!
This is going to be a short post. I am waiting on a friend to pick me up and go do a little shopping. We are going toward Seville, Ohio.
Alot of gals have been talking about wanting noodle boards/stove top covers. so I thought I would share mine for show and tell.
This noodle board is actually a piece of counter top that I got from lowes for free!! (This is the part that would be cut out for a sink).
They had probably 6-7 sitting there and I asked for one. as you can see in the second pic the laminate side was NOT painted. I left it laminate so if I wanted to use it for cutting or slicing I could.
All I did was sand the edges a little with a sanding block, paint, add stars, distress and finish with a clear acrylic.
The best part is the board was free!!! Yea!!!

laminate side
Be back soon with some good shopping stories, I hope!! :)

what's new??

Whats new with you?? Today is "Whatcha working on Wednesday" at Leslie's blog-
http://sweets-mycountryhome.blogspot.com/

so make sure you post a project for today.

This is a pic of the Chocolate Miracle Whip cake . I got the recipe from my friend Cookie at
CYO forums. Let me tell ya, its wonderful!!!

Chocolate Miracle Whip Cake

8x8 pan
Ingredients:
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons soda
4 tablespoons cocoa
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 cup miracle whip
1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:Mix all ingredients together and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Just a note: don't taste the batter...just wait for the cake to be done, then enjoy. It is very moist.

As you can tell by my pic I made the cake bigger than an 8x8. lol
Heck, that would be just a smell around here.
This is the same recipe I just added more ingredients, after getting the math part figured out. lol

Here is the recipe for a 9x13 pan.

Miracle Whip Cake

3 cups cake flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
6 tablespoons cocoa
3 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups miracle whip
1 1/2 cup water
2 teaspoons vanilla
Mix all ingredients until blended. Pour batter into a 9-by-13-inch pan.
Bake 30 to 35 minutes at 350 degrees.

Thank you Cookie!!!!

Does anyone have this window decor?? lol
