A great day for Pumpkin rolls

Wow, its windy here today!!

My Fall yard decor is blowing everywhere. Hopefully it doesn’t go farther than the neighbor’s yard.

This morning I got busy and cleaned the house. Everything is sparkling clean and shiny.

So then, I decided to bake something and I got to thinking; what would be better than pumpkin rolls?! :)

pumpkin-roll

3 eggs
2/3 cup canned pumpkin
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Mix all dry ingredients; add eggs and pumpkin..

Line a cookie sheet or 11x15" jelly roll pan with waxed paper. Spread batter evenly in the pan, leveling to edges.

Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 15 minutes.

On a work surface, spread a clean cotton dish towel. Sprinkle liberally with confectioners sugar- you don’t want the roll to stick to your towel.. Invert the pumpkin roll onto the dish towel while still warm. Peel off the paper.

Gently roll up the towel, holding both ends to roll evenly. Allow to cool while still rolled up.

Unroll, spread with the filling below and reroll. Place in aluminum foil. Refrigerate.

Slice 1 1/2 to 2 inch thick slices for each serving.

Filling:

2 teaspoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
8 oz. pkg. cream cheese
1 cup confectioners' sugar

Mix and whip until creamy.

I made 3; one for us and the other two to share.

I got a fresh pot of coffee on if you want to come over. :)

The ornies I sent….

Thought I would get on and post before getting busy around the house. I know its noon and I am still in my sweats( so unlike me!) Today feels like a blah today, not sick, but not tired either; maybe its this weather outside.

I wanted to post the handmade Halloween ornies that I sent out a few days ago. I participated in a swap over at the Primitive & Rustic group on Delphi forums. Its really a great bunch of girls and I love doing swaps. :)

The “bolts” in his neck are actually just twigs. :)

This corn dryer was found a while back at a yard sale($1.00). I had seen one similar in Country Sampler.

The corn is what I had from last year. It looked kinda bare at the top so I added the piece of fabric. I still think I need a hang tag or something.

What do you think?

Was wanting to post a picture of my cutting boards , but the weather is not cooperating. The only place I have to stain is outside and the last couple days we have had rain off and on.

Hopefully, I can finish them this weekend.

I am using a new font, can you tell? :) Is it readable? Let me know what you think. :)

Oh, before I go…. stop over by Mill House Primitives blog and sign up for the giveaway!!!

I also picked up a couple cutting boards at the Dollar Zone store( a everything for $1.00 store) . I did put a coat of paint on them but it still isn’t dry in this muggy weather. :(

I will post them as soon as I can.

Make sure your stop by Leslie’s and see what everyone else is doing. :)

~Fall~

fall_article_large_article_large

Nothing can steal your heart away
Quicker than a Fall day.
When the sun is warm and the shadows are cool,
The lake water stands like a bright blue pool.
The warm sand begs you to bare your feet,
The balmy air is meadow-sweet.
Leaves are falling from colorful trees,
And nature has moved in, merely to tease...
She comes with her warm days, just to betray...
For winter is only a breath away!

Happy first day of Fall!!!

Problems, Peeves and Pastimes

Please feel free to make your own list as we go. :)

PROBLEMS-

I feel like this should still be Monday.
1. We have been messing around with a kitchen sink water problem since Sunday afternoon. of course, it would leak on Sunday when everything closes early.
SO spent yesterday afternoon (after getting off work) trying to fix the problem. The saga continues today. I have been hauling water from the bathtub to the kitchen to do dishes. so not fun! I am also pretty obsessive about mopping every other day.. I haven't got to mop since Saturday, I feel like its a dirtball in here. Hopefully today it gets fixed.

2. New( not even completely moved in) neighbor's 21 y/o son next door spun tires last weekend and cracked the window of dd#2's car. We tried to speak with him about it and his mother called the police to say we were threatening him. Needless to say, I wrote a statement at the sheriff's office.

3. One of our cats( the previous neighbor left her behind)) had her kittens under the new neighbor's storage building. I am afraid to even go over and retrieve them.

4. I missed the Schwans' guy again. He left a note stating he would be here on 9/7.
9/7?? that was Labor day!
Didn't they think most people would be out enjoying the last hurrah of summer??!!

5. I cannot find my rotary cutter anywhere. I am so irked.

PEEVES-

1. Those who think I have nothing to do all day.

2. Raggedy anne dolls that people list as "primitive" . There is nothing primitive about a raggedy anne doll.

3. Whiney people

4. Long "speedy" checkout lines

5. Last minute planners

6. Drama queens

7. Lame excuses

PASTIMES-

1. Still need to plant some perennials

2. Going to look for pumpkins this evening

3. Finishing up a few swap projects. :)

4. Looking for a good book to read.

OKAY, I want to see your lists. Let it ALL out people!!!

Plans for the weekend?

Thought I would post and see what everyone is doing for the weekend. :)
We are planning on doing a little yard work. My sister, Kelly and I went to Lowe's on Wednesday to find her some mulch. It was a great day to go. All mums were half off; including the ones already on clearance. I got a couple 6 inch pots for 50 cents each and a few others were just a bit more.
We are still searching for some corn stalks to use in decorating outside.
Sunday also starts our county fair. We don't usually go out till later in the week. Though, Monday is the rough truck contest and it might be kind of fun to see.
I do have the house pretty much cleaned up.
Still need to run to Walmart and get a few things, plus make a German Chocolate cake.

What do you have planned for the weekend??

Rainy Tuesday

Good morning all,
I am up early and cleaning before going to dr.'s appt.
It is supposed to rain all day ( at least off and on).
Guess you could say I had a busy weekend.
Saturday we went on a nice long drive north of where we live.
It was pretty much driving on a few back roads and state routes. I was so excited to find a drive-in movie theater that is actually up and running!! The Lynn drive-in theater is open every night May thru September. I would love to go see a movie there!
Anyone been there??
Lunch was had in Berlin, Ohio. If you have never ate at Boyd & Wurthermans while shopping there; then you should!! They really have great food. No, its not a big fancy place like some of the other Amish restaurants in the area but the food is great!
I did stop in a couple prim stores but the prices have skyrocketed!! We did lots of looking and no spending. Most people were doing the same as I or taking lots of pictures. We did find a couple new thrift stores in the area that I would like to visit next time. :)
Sunday we went to my mom's for lunch. The whole family was there. OMG, they had fixed so much food:
italian sausages with green peppers and onions, turkey and dressing, ribs, tomato pie, homemade noodles, scalloped potaotes, calico beans and iced tea.
We left stuffed. lol
Then it was on to my aunt's to mow grass. This was my first time ever to use a ridng mower. Trust me, I didn't go fast. lol I was really nervous to begin with but it went alright. I never put it in reverse. It didn't get that far; straight ahead and making turns was good enough for me. :)
Monday we went to a friends home to paint the bathroom, have lunch and
then to my dad's for a Labor Day supper cook out.
It's hard to believe that this is September. I have anxiously waited on Fall and cooler weather but now that its here; I miss the sunny days of June and July and the sound of kids out of school.

W.W.W. - Lots to show you

So sorry for being gone so long.
This is the time of year when I seem to be the busiest.
We have canned over 120 quarts of tomatoes, tomato juice and pickles.
Next weekend should be the last of the tomato canning.

I have lots to show you............ even though I haven't been on here, I have been doing a little crafting around the house.
This was an old wood recipe box that I had painted and ditressed . I had posted about it previously but at the time it didn't have a label on it.
Diane from A Primitive Journey came up with a very cool primitive label for me. I wanted it to be something tobacco related as my SO does smoke. It's a great place to keep his lighters and cigarettes.
Thank you so much, Diane!!
IMG_2766

Remember this old bread box that I had bought wayyy back in the beginning of the year( sometime in March).
IMG_2259

TA-DA!! This is the "after" shot. What do you think?
IMG_2780
I have it setting on my dryer to hold detergent, fabric softener and the iron.

Here is another "before" photo. This old desk was bought for $3.00 last month.
IMG_2760

"after"- I am loving it!!!
IMG_2784
Desk was cleaned and metal was scrubbed with a wire brush. The finish on it is with CWF-UV. It is very, very easy to apply. All you need is a brush. There is no awful smell and it cleans up with soap and water. I bought it at Lowes; its the same stuff that we use on the deck and steps. I do need to find the little cup or ink holder(?) that fits in the top.

I started working on some Fall decorating.
IMG_2787
Maybe I need to change out the sign to one that says something about Fall? What do you think? Have you seen any really primitive ones online?
The make do was one I received a few years ago in a swap.
The bittersweet is fake. shhhh.........
The candle is actually one of the Airwick flameless candles. I just took some walnut stain and dry brushed the exterior. It looks somewhat light colored in this pic, but in my home it does look darker. I thought this was an inexpensive way to have a scented candle that actually flickers. :)
You can change the scent by buying diffenet refills that go in the bottom.
I paid $3.49 for it at Rite Aid.

Last, but not least(heck, we can't forget the food!) lol
is ........................

Banana cupcakes with caramel icing and chopped pecans.
IMG_2770
I used the same recipe as for banana bread. The icing is store bought( thanks, Betty Crocker!) and the the pecans I chopped myself. :) LOL

Now, off to read what everyone else is doing these days.
