THis & THat

Hi all,
Just on for a few minutes and wanted to post. :)
I thought you might enjoy a little of "this & that".
THAT is the stack of windows that we have taking up space . lol
Actually, they are being used for the cold frames( aka prim greenhouse) that I posted about previously.

The pink box is for the cats. :) Of course, it had to have a barn star too. :)

THIS is what is going on in my yard. Things are coming up!!

summer 2009

THAT is what my vinyl flooring looks like right now. Armstrong is going to be hearing from me. This is the second year it has done this.
"self laying", my patoot!! I think its junk. :)
if mama aint happy;aint nobody happy. :)

I do not like sweeping over the "hills".

THIS is a little bowl that I found at the Goodwill for 49 cents. Another blogging friend found the same bowl, same price at her local goodwill. Do you know who it was? :)

THoughts for FRiday

Even though I clutch my blanket and growl when the alarm rings.
Thank you, Lord, that I can hear..
There are many who are deaf.

Even though I keep my eyes closed
against the morning light as long as possible.
Thank you, Lord , that I can see.
Many are blind.

Even though I huddle in my bed
and put off rising.
Thank you, Lord, that I have the strength to rise.
There are many who are bedridden..

Even though the first hour
of my day is hectic, when socks are lost,
toast is burned, tempers are short,
and my children are so loud.
Thank you, Lord, for my family.
There are many who are lonely.

Even though our breakfast table
never looks like the picture
in magazines and the menu is at times unbalanced.
Thank you, Lord, for the food we have.
There are many who are hungry.

Even though the routine
of my job often is monotonous.
Thank you, Lord, for the opportunity to work.
There are many who have no job.

Even though I grumble
and bemoan my fate from day to day
and wish my circumstances were not so modest.
Thank you, Lord, for life.

Pass this on to the friends you know.
It might help a bit to make this world
a better place to live, right?

Have a great day, Kim

NeW PRoject :)

Yesterday I went and picked up some old windows. This is what we are creating.

They are for sale if you feel like driving to Ohio. lol
The tops do open up to allow for planting, cuttings etc. This one has herbs in it- at someone's house. :) The white stick you see in the left hand corner of the prim greenhouse is to hold the top open, it is simply a spring tension rod.

I also thought I would post a slideshow of my yard from a summer or two ago. :)
After all, we are supposed to have 80 degree weather over the weekend! yippee!!

Tomorrow is yard sale day (i am hoping). It has been a lonnnnggggg time since I found any great deals.
See ya later, Kim

KNock, Knock, Is ANyone Home?

Knock, Knock, is anyone home? lol
I feel like I have been away from blogging forever. I know some of you thought maybe I was lost considering all the emails . Thanks for them all. :)
Actually, I have been pretty busy around the house. Everything is coming up in the yard and I need to get some pictures soon. We have put down Epsom salt on all the hosta and fern beds to help them grow. I learned that from my grandma and it does work.
Q: Why is Epsom Salt good for plants? A: Epsom Salt is magnesium sulfate. Magnesium is a mineral plants need for a stronger root structure and to facilitate the uptake of chlorophyll.

We have cut the grass here and at my dad's twice already and it needs it again!

I have babysit my nieces a few times in the past week. Let me tell ya, they are a handful! lol

Now, I got an Earth Day post. :)
and anyone watching Biggest Loser? (duh, that was a dumb question, lol)
This is the water bottle they use from BRITA FILTER FOR GOOD. Online you can get them for $10.00

I found them cheaper and at a sweeter deal!! BIG LOTS has them for $2.00!! Yep, just $2.00 and they have the packs of crystal light inside! It's a double score. :) I bought 5 of them while I was in town over the weekend. One of them I already opened and am using. They are great and so pretty! Head over to BIG lots and pick one up. If you are in my area , the bottles are located right next to the picnic supplies( colored plastic plates, cups, etc)

Today I am going to run to Kmart and pick up a few things while the double coupon deal is going on. I went last night, (well, attempted to go) but the store was closed ( along with Walmart) for a few hours due to a power outage. They have alot of great deals if you are a coupon user. I already got a few things( Pledge multi surface spray, Visine, Bic soliel razors,Oust deodorizing spray, dog treats and V8 fusion) FREE!
Here is a link to get a $2.00 off the V8 fusion
It is $3.99 at Kmart, double the coupon this week and that means it is free!
Oh, I got a little giveaway to show you later too. :)
Be back soon. :)

Busy Thursday

I am having a busy Thursday. need to clean up the house a little, get a few groceries and swing by my dads. Not sure what our plans are for the weekend. I am still wanting to get the bedroom painted. It is depressing looking at primered walls. lol

There is still the question of bed covers and such that I want to use. What colors should I go with? I see sooo many bedrooms that I really like and some are not really prim. I know that spending a huge chunk on this bedding is NOT an option. Plus, we have a dog and cats who love to sleep on the bed. :).

This morning I checked the paper for yard sales and there wasn't much going on around here. maybe today's paper will have more for the weekend.

I know some of you have heard of Redbox and others haven't either heard of it or never tried it out. Let me tell ya, its wonderful!! When I can go rent a NEW movie release for $1.07 then I am all for it!!
(Make sure you sign up at Redbox by clicking on the above link and then sign up at Inside Rebox for codes).
Right now, Inside Redbox is offering free gold membership till 2010. :). You can get free codes to rent on Mondays!

For blog readers in my area ; there is a Redbox at Walmart. It is located inside the food center doors. :)

The makedo pattern is offered by Sassafras Hill. Please check out the other wonderful freebies on her page( located in the left sidebar). You will not be disappointed in her patterns. I can say that she is also awesome to purchase from . :)

What are your plans for the weekend??

Just some CHit CHat

I know I promised to decide what I was doing for a giveaway over the weekend. Well, let's say that thought didn't occur till last night. I should have know that a holiday weekend was not the best time to get real creative. We had a great Easter dinner at dad's. Sorry I don't have any pics to post. You guessed right, I forgot the camera at home. Maybe I forgot it because we had to load ham, a crockpot of homemade noodles, liters of pop, take the dog out and feed the cats before we ever got to leave the driveway. We also tilled on Saturday afternnon and after Easter dinner. I know we shouldn't have on Sunday but the tiller was not ours and we wanted to get it back as promised.

Right now, it is raining outside and very dreary; not the kind of spring day that I want to see.

I made homemade angel food cake last night( I didn't get it made for Easter, we had cupcakes instead). Let's just say I am glad I didn't make it on Easter. It was a DUD. I just don't have the knack for making that kind of cake from scratch. Ya know, everyone has something that they are not good at. Well, angel food cake has me beat right now. :)

My hostas are coming up like crazy right now. and so is the clematis. I will get some pics this afternoon so later this summer there is something to compare it to.

Yesterday I stopped into the local Goodwill and left emptyhanded. There was not one thing I thought I wanted. Most of the stuff was left over Christmas decorations( um, this is April) and mismatched plates that were not my style. Maybe another trip to Columbus thrift stores is in the near future.

Have you signed up for the Lowe's garden club and newsletter? If not, head on over, last year I received free garden scissors, free gloves and 3 coupons for $10.00 off $25.00 purchases. :)

And Home Depot also has a great garden club, you will also receive coupons, and last year I got free plant markers.

I promise to get busy on a giveaway project real soon.

W.W.W. .......UPDATE @ 3:22PM

Good morning,

I have been up since about 6am. the house is clean, laundry is all folded and I just need to get dressed. :)
I am working on a free stitchery pattern that I found on Primitive Blessings.

I tried to post a pic of my own but I cannot find my camera cord.
It has got to be here somewhere. lol

This is a garden junk idea that I had in my faves. What a great idea for a prim garden. :)

Make sure you stop over by Leslie's blog to see what everyone else is working on.

I wanted to let everyone know that emailed me and commented on my last post about Walmart , that they did call me back. The customer service rep asked for my address and said they would be sending me a gift card in the mail. We actually spent about half an hour on the phone; she wanted to know all about using coupons, where to look at online for deals and what were some great blogs on decorating and thrifting. :)

Last night we watched "DOUBT" . It was a great movie, wonderful script and "message".It really talks about morals. very thought provoking. :)

I am off to the grocery today and the bakery outlet. I try to make it there once every couple weeks. You can get a whole cart load of breads, cookies, cakes and buns for only 2.00!
Now these are what is considered, "day old", but most store goods are already day old
anyways. :)
Whatever we don't need I just give out. There is 4 senior apartment complexes within minutes of me. I just take them in with a index card that says "free-help yourself" and leave everything on the table. :)
Be back soon...........

It has been a Long Weekend

Warning, this is a long post........................
Oh jeez, it has been a long weekend!
I am anxious to see Monday on its way.
I was up at a little after 4 am on Saturday and couldn't go back to sleep at all.
By 8:30 am I was out the door to pick up my "Aunt E". She needed to go to the bank and store. Her car is in the garage until Tuesday getting repaired. Aunt E has been having problems with her car for the last few months. She hasn't been driving it for a good while due to having eye surgery so at the time I wasn't aware of the problem. Well, a week ago(post eye surgery) she asked me to drive her car to the store. She was a little apprehensive due to not driving for such a long time. Well, the ABS light came on half way through our trip. She said the mechanic had told her it wasn't a big deal and to get the light to go off all she had to do was pull over and shut the car off for a few minutes.
I was like, WHOA!! WAIT A MINUTE!! That doesn't even sound right!! I told Aunt E it sounded like it was electrical and maybe the computer was going bad. Well, sure enough, she got up the courage to try going herself on Friday and when she went to start the car, all the dashboard lights came on! She pulled into the garage and called me. I told her it had to go to a shop and while she was waiting on the mechanic( a different mechanic, mind you) to call her;. get the car out of the garage in case it did catch on fire. Her garage is connected to the house ... it would have been all bad. :( Saturday morning, she had to ride in my 'jewel" '93 Explorer. :)
Anyways, we were off to the bank and Walmart. I needed a few things from there that I had coupons for. I headed one direction and she headed the other. We both ended up at the check out lane about the same time. I went first and laid out all my coupons ON TOP of the products that they correlated with. Well, the clerk was very frazzled as she said the check cashing scanner was acting up. She didn't say this to me but to the people in front of us. She did make a remark to the other shopper that I had sooo many coupons. (I had exactly 15 coupons, is that alot???) . She gathered up all of them and laid them by the register and informed me that she didn't like the coupons on top of the items. ( okay, whatever). She rang me up and said, "$76.12" I said, "excuse me, but you didn't take off any of my coupons". she said, "oh yea"..........
I went back to helping Aunt E put her things on the belt. I heard her scanning some coupons but didn't pay particular mind to how many "beeps" I heard. She then states, "$46.22". I was still thinking this was high but I paid her , helped my aunt and we left the store. After loading everything, I checked my receipt. Sure enough!! She had only scanned 7 coupons, not 15. I went back in the store and to the customer service desk. They contacted an assistant manager who called them back and stated there were no coupons in her drawer. They wanted my name and phone number and said they would call me. I politely said I wanted it straightened out right then so I didn't have to make another trip........ they called the clerk off her break and sure enough there was the coupons in the register!! The asst. manager had never looked!! I ended up getting another refund of $17.01 . So , in all total I got $76.12 worth of stuff for $29.21( the higlight of my weekend).
The worst part was not one employee apologized for their mistake. I am so tempted to email Walmart and let them know what happened.

After taking Aunt E home. I unloaded everything at my house to go help SO at work. They got an order to deliver shop towels to Amish country.
There was 3 ton of rags to split and put in 20lb. bags. Talk about a job!!
And guess how many guys were there to help him??.. Nope not one......... all by his lonesome. Well, except for me.......
By the time we were done it was going on 8pm. All either of us could do was eat, shower and hit the bed.

Sunday morning we got up to his dad knocking on the door.
He came to ask us( and he hasn't been to the house for over 6 months) if we had come down and borrowed his weed eater.. ( uh, no. why would we? I mean there is three weed eaters in the shed). I was totally floored. I mean the guy hasn't been around for MONTHS and all of a sudden this is what he came to ask us about. He was gone by noon..

The bedroom continues to look like a construction zone.
We went this afternoon and found some great mistint paint that I am going to use in the bedroom. The walls have been needing some new paint for a while........ we have them half sanded and half not......... its not the most relaxing bedroom that you have ever seen let me tell ya!! lol
Thank goodness to Lowe's and their mistint section.
We also stopped by the Goodwill. I picked up 6 Anchor Hocking pasta style bowls and a few magazines. Remember the little cutter in a previous post with the wood handle? well, they had one at the Goodwill in the display case for $4.99!! Are they crazy??!!
The last few hours I have spent cutting more coupons from the paper. I am not even ready to go to sleep.

Its now been raining for about an hour......... we are expecting 1-2 inches of snow by Tuesday.
(Welcome to Ohio weather).

How was your weekend??

Olive GReen COOkware

W.W.W. -Cooking Fabric

I know, I know......... I am late getting posted today.
So, do you want to know what I have been working on?
First of all, I was cooking some fabric.
No, not to eat either. lol
I like to put fabric in my coffee mix and actually boil it on the stove.
I think it gives it a really great old, worn look the longer you cook it.

While I was waiting on my fabric to finishing cookin',
I peeled a bunch of apples to make Apple Crisp today.

This is the best recipe I have ever used.

10 cups all-purpose apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup water

2 cup quick-cooking oats
2 cup all-purpose flour
2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup butter, melted

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degree C).
Mix apples with the white sugar, 1 tablespoon flour and ground cinnamon together, and sprinkle over apples. place into 9x13 pan.Pour water evenly over all.
Combine the oats, 1 cup flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and melted butter together. Crumble evenly over the apple mixture.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for about 45 minutes-60 minutes.
It will not last long. :)

Then in between cooking fabric and peeling apples,
I touched up some paint in the bathroom.

Whew, it's been a long day.
I am off to see what everyone is doing over at Leslie's, "Whatcha Working on Wednesday".
