THE WEEKEND IS OVER.........

I am tired! I have had a very busy weekend and have a few things to share with you.
First, I received my giveaway goodies from Home Again-Vintage Treasures
http://gardenjunk.blogspot.com/
I received two lavender sachets, a bar of lavender comfrey soap, vintage doily, handkerchief with a "K", a beautiful bird and nest, coffee mug, and vintage picture. I am so loving it all!!
Thank you so much!!

I have grown quite tired of this shelf and the display. I am contemplating painting the walls but am not sure. I do know this thing is /was driving me crazy!!! See the cat sleeping on the back of the chair? Well, she doesn't drive me crazy. that is "MRS". I know crazy name, but its hers. lol

BEFORE

and now.. after! The star is one I bought a week or so ago at a wholesale shop for $2.50!!
I made the shelf out of some barn wood. The barn was built in 1865, according to the owner. He offered me some wood so I jumped at the chance. I wanted something plain and simple, no fussiness , no pip berries on here! lol
The goose is from Mary at http://gettysburghomestead.blogspot.com/
I simply love him! I would definitely buy from Mary anytime!
The pewter candle holder I got at a yard sale saturday for $1.50. Not a bad price, do you think? The crock I already had. I laid the surround sound speaker down inside of it. Surround sound speakers are so not prim. lol

So, what do you think??? Does it look too sparse?
Please let me know if you think I need to add something , I am open to ideas.

Besides the pewter candle light holder, I picked up 3 gingerbread cookie pans, . These are not cute chubby gingerbread men, but long skinny ones. They are really cool. I thought about using them for maybe cinnamon dough gingers?? I dont know. I did get all 3 for 10 cents!!
I also picked up a set of cream colored curtains. six panels( 80 inches long) and three valances for $5.00. I thought about embroidering on them or something. or maybe just use them in the bedroom??
They may end up in my own yard sale that I am having next weekend. :)

Today's family reunion was on my dad's side. We arrived at 12:40pm and was home by 2:50pm.
Wow, and that included eating too!!
Next weekend is the one on my mom's side of the family. It will be alot longer! We not only eat but also have games for kids and adults. We play our own version of musical chairs. Instead of getting up and moving ( which older folks cant do) we play music, pass around a hat and a bike horn. Each person has to put on the hat( and its usually a crazy one) , then honk the horn.
Then they pass both items to the next person before the music stops. It really gets everyone in a great mood and laughing. We also do bingo, guess how many is in the jar game and others.
One of my favorite things is our "handmade goods" auction. Each family brings handmade goodies, whether it be crafts or cakes, pies, jellies and jams, etc. These are auctioned off and the money is used to pay for table services, game prizes, etc. Its alot of fun and everyone gets to show off their creativeness.

One of my very easy, very simple, very fast ( and very favorite) desserts

DUMP SALAD

1 (21 oz.) can cherry pie filling
1 (20 oz.) can crushed pineapple
16 oz. Cool Whip
1 (14 oz.) can condensed milk
2 c. miniature marshmallows
Dump all ingredients into a large bowl and mix thoroughly. It should be a pretty pink color, with no white areas remaining. Refrigerate 4 hours or overnight. Serve as a fruit salad or light dessert. Makes 10-12 servings.

Interested in "primming" some bright floss?

See ya later, Km

  5. Hey Kim thanks for the kind comments about the goose. I love the shelf, but I'm thinking it needs flowers or greenery or something to add a splash or maybe a towel under everything hanging over the edge of the shelf. Just a thought.

Your reunion sounds like a lot of fun. BTW how is your Dad do I remember correctly he was sick a while back?

  7. I like the shelf too...and the simplicity of the arrangement. Mary's idea @ a towel or maybe a doily might soften the look.
    Good luck,

  12. Very nice! Sometimes we just need a simple change like that. Rearrange and move something or what not and it feels like a totally new home :)

I have had that stuff before that is in your recipe but it was never given a name. Oh, and we leave out the marshmallows! I was actually just thinking about it on Saturday before we went to the family reunion because Jer's aunt made it years ago but I haven't had it in quite some time!

    Have a great day!

thanks to ginger and tammy for the entries and info.
mary, i walked into the living room this morning and thought about a towel or something too. lol i am trying to stay away from the berries and drieds. mine were collecting alot of dust .
my dad is doing better. he is taking it easy. well, easy for him. he is 70 and enjoys keeping busy.
heather, its not a shameless plug.lol. i wil definitely check them out.
lisa, i would like to find some pussy willows to put in the crock. i think it would look more natural. i had sweet annie in another crock and it gets too flakey with cats and a dog running by all the time.

thanks again for all the compliments!!

  16. Just love your blog. Thanks for dropping by mine. I'll definitely be back to see what you're up to next. Love the simple shelf makeover. Don't you love the challenge of inexpensive decorating! I think it is more fun than having all the money in the world to spend!

  17. I agree , it needs a towel or scrap of homespun. Maybe a sign under the shelf.
But either way it looks great the way it is.

Thanks for your helpful comment on my blog. Can I ask you more about getting a license? You mentioned a transient license, is that what I need to do craft shows? Well that be good enough or will I also have to get some other kind of license to rent booth space in a mall?
I'm getting excited about the thought of being a real business woman. LOL

  18. i am going to try a towel or fabric. i agree i think it would look more pulled together.

  19. I like your new arrangement better too. But some pips or twigs sticking out of that crock would be cute and not too fussy. Or fold a tea towel and let part of it hang out.
