UPDATE- We went to the hospital this morning since my dad was due for surgery. He has a large abdominal hernia due to a previous surgery. My dad is 69, still works 40 hours a week. He retired as a superviser from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. He couldn't stand being retired so he went back to work as a driver for Hertz rental. He loves this job.:)
A year ago he had an abdominal aneurysm. it was very large . After that surgery he had several mini strokes and recovered. Years ago he had had several incidents of cardiac arrest. Let me tell ya, one of the scariest things to do is be the person running with your own dad on a gurney to be life flighted. It really got to me. Anyways, today he cancelled his own surgery . They even had the IV running. Dad said he just didn't feel right about it. He said he just wasn't in a "mind set". I don't know if that was it or not. My dad is not a spiritual person. I think that was more of the problem and it has been weighing on his mind alot. He doesn't know Jesus as his savior. It's really hard to talk to him, he is my dad and has always been the rough and gruff type of guy.
We got him home and he went straight to the recliner to nap. He knows this surgery has to be done. I hope the Lord speaks to him.
I'll be keeping your dad in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs.

'Gruff' kind of guys usually are softies on the inside, and I will pray and keep you all in my thoughts that he will be ready for it another time especailly if its a precedure he really needs to have.
ReplyDeleteTell him lots of people are wishing him well and thinking of him through this hard time for him.
My thoughts and prayers are with your dad & your family. Hopefully dad will be ready to do this soon!
ReplyDeleteThe scripture in Ecclesiastes that speaks of there being a "time for everything" came to mind as I read your post today. I believe that your dad knew that the time wasn't right for his surgery. I pray that as he waits for the right time that he finds the Lord. I will be praying for you.
ReplyDeleteI, too, am thinking about you and your dad. Caring for aging parents is a bit stressful, so be sure to take care of yourself too!
ReplyDeleteKim, I'll be praying for you and your dad. He is blessed to have you there by his side.

ReplyDeleteKim, I just found your blog... I was just scrolling thru and figured I would come back in a few when my girls were sound asleep to really look at your blog, but when I got to this post, something caught my eye. That was the abnomial anyursim. My mom just found out she has one. It scares me to death since she had a heart attack 11 years ago! I guess hers is only 3cm, but its still there. It still worries me. I am glad your dad pulled thru that ok. I will keep your dad in my prayers!!!
